RECRUITMENT

Ghidotti is a school of choice. Each class level is capped at around 40 students, so Ghidotti goes through an admissions process each year for prospective freshmen. Ghidotti uses multiple measures to determine whether a prospective freshman is at grade level (academically and about maturity). Ghidotti searches for applicants who are at grade level and demonstrate a level of maturity that will make them successful in their community college classrooms. Measures to determine this include GPA, CAASPP test scores, math and English assessments, a writing sample, and the email of the current math and English teacher. We will email them a confidential survey instead of requesting a recommendation letter. Ghidotti staff evaluate applications each year with a focus on inclusion. A lottery is used if the number of qualified applicants exceeds the cap. Since implementing the new application process in 2017, Each year Ghidotti has had roughly 100 applicants.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must reside within the attendance boundaries of Nevada Joint Union High School District, or be on a current, approved inter-district transfer to be eligible to apply to and attend GECHS (if admitted).

APPLICATION PROCESS AND ADMISSIONS

Ghidotti continues to implement its application process to ensure equal access for all students. There is an annual Information Night for prospective students and their families every January. Students in grades 8-10 may apply online for fall admission during the application period (usually the end of November until the end of January). Applicants must mail or hand-deliver the following to the Ghidotti Office (Ghidotti ECHS; 250 Sierra College Dr; Grass Valley, CA  95945):
  • 7th-grade state test scores
  • Report cards from the previous school year and the first semester/trimester of their current school year
Prospective students will complete a math and English assessment on the Sierra College campus. Application decisions will be made in late March. Applicants should be advised that admission into Ghidotti Early College High School is selective and is not guaranteed.
